PICS: What’s going on at the library?

On Friday 15 September, Faith Mazibuko, MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (SACR) visited the library for the first time and promised that it would reopen and be fully functional on 2 October 2017. On Monday, 18 September, the DA Gauteng spokesperson for SACR, Paul Willemburg, MPL, as well as the DA PR councillor for Wards 2 and 25, Gerhard Kruger, conducted an oversight visit to the building.

The Trudy’s Nest Luncheon Club formed part of the Go West! Cultural Day celebrations at the Kokosi Community Hall in Fochville on Saturday, 9 September. The Toekies elderly in Cape Carnival regalia of multi-coloured polka dot hats, bow ties, sunglasses and painted faces, added more splendour to the cultural carnival. The event was organised by the West Rand District Municipality (WRDM) and a variety of cultures on the West Rand – from the Setswana to Xhosa, Zulu to Sesotho – were showing off their regalia, dancing and singing.

PICS: Man transported to hospital after falling from roof

A man in his late 40s fell from a second-storey rooftop at the Greenhills Circle at about noon on Thursday, 31 August. Eventually, the rescuers managed to get Kruger to the top of the fire truck, where they stabilised him again and then, working together like the A-Team, made a plan to get Kruger safely down the fire truck’s ladder, and transport him to the Netcare Krugersdorp Private Hospital. Hoosen Ravat from Netcare 911 confirmed that Kruger was in a stable condition when they finally got him into the ambulance.
