A family from Waterpan in Westonaria was held at gunpoint, tied up and robbed during a smallholding invasion on the night of Monday, 8 October.
Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, confirmed that the incident took place at about 7pm and that they have launched a manhunt for five suspects after they entered a house on a smallholding and robbed the occupants of three firearms, electrical appliances, money and jewellery. A case of house robbery is being investigated.
“It is alleged the victim was home with his parents when they were accosted by five suspects already pointing firearms at them. They tied the victims’ hands and feet before demanding money.
“The victims told them they had no money and one of the suspects made a call. After he ended the call, he instructed one of the victims to take him to the bedroom where the safe was.”
Lefakane added the victim took the suspects to the safe, which they managed to open.
“They took the firearms and money. On their way out, they removed the plasma televisions and loaded them inside the victims’ Landrover that was parked outside before escaping with it,” she added.
The vehicle is a Landrover Freelander with registration number LLX 310 GP. The Bekkersdal Police are requesting that anyone who can assist the police with information that could lead to an arrest should contact them on 011 755 0000, or alternatively contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
