A search is on for three suspects who hijacked a 37-year-old man in his silver VW Jetta 5 with registration number ZXN 223 GP on the R28 last night.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, confirmed that the incident took place at about 6pm on Tuesday, 12 June.

“It is alleged the victim was driving along the R28 to Simunye and just as he was about to drive into the entrance he noticed three men.

One was wearing a police reflector jacket. He further alleged that they signalled him to stop his vehicle.

“He also alleged that one man asked him why did he not stop at the stop street and before he could respond, another man pointed a firearm at him, and together they forced him into the back of the vehicle. A third man drove the vehicle. The victim was contacted by his tracking company, but was forced to say he was fine.

“The suspects then robbed him of his three cellphones, ID book, licence, mine clock cards, cash and his vehicle papers. He was later dropped off at a secluded place in Protea Glen, Soweto. The suspects are unknown at this stage and remain in possession of the victim’s personal documents.

“We are appealing to the public to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects or locate the vehicle to please contact the Bekkersdal Police on 011 755 0000 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or to send an SMS to 32211.”
