This after they won the 2018 Public Speaking competition held at the Nasrec Exhibition Centre recently. They will also receive laptops from the Gauteng Department of Education as a reward for their victories.

The awards for Avante Prmary School for winning the 2018 Public Speaking competition. Three laptops will also be handed over to the three learners in July.

Coach and English teacher at the school, Olivia Daniels, said Orefile Mpadisang, Omphile Mahupela and Zinhle Sello represented the school well by beating twelve schools in Gauteng.

She said the learners faced tough competition in the second round for the provincial level.

“Eleven schools were there but our learners remained confident and won. Apart from bragging about being the best public speakers on the West Rand, winning this competition has made us extremely proud.

It showed us that hard work and dedication pay!” Olivia added.

The competition was coordinated by the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation (SACR). The first round, which was for the district level, was held on Saturday, 19 May, at the Carletonville Civic Centre. Avante Primary was up against 12 primary schools in Gauteng.
