Ismael Vadi, MEC for Roads and Transport in Gauteng, hosted a high-powered delegation from Ghana in the Randfontein CBD on Monday, 10 April.

“This delegation was led by Ishmael Ashitey, the Greater Accra Regional Minister and George Ayisi Boateng, Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa. They were joined by a number of mayors as well as senior provincial government and municipal officials. Mzi Khumalo, Executive Mayor of the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) was among the big names,” said Tshidiso Tlharipe, RWCLM spokesperson.

He explained that the purpose of their visit was to strengthen trade relations between the two countries and explore various economic growth initiatives.

“The visit led the delegation of Ghana to Busmark, a wholly owned black company based in Randfontein that has more than 40 years of experience,” added Thlaripe. It supplies a comprehensive range of buses and bus services.

The Managing Director of Busmark, Phathuxolo Nodada took the delegation on a tour of the manufacturing plant where all the processes were extensively explained to them in practical terms – from the assembly of the buses to the finishing line.

Tlharipe said Nodada reflected on the strategy by which Busmark established a niche market for bus manufacturing in South Africa and their intention to expand their business operations on the African continent.

Numerous strategies for the production of game-drive trucks and other products were explained during the visit and the delegation was quite impressed by the presentation.

The visitors departed at about 10.45am for another round-table discussion in the Cradle of Humankind with the Executive Mayor of Mogale City Local Municipality.
