Nita Barnard, the State Prosecutor, appeared on behalf of the State, while Advocate Amanda Nel appeared on behalf of the suspect.
When Rooskrans’ ex-boyfriend entered the court, he did not make eye contact with anybody. He sat on the bench, with his hands covering his eyes. Prosecutor Barnard asked that the case be postponed until 19 March, by which time they will have instructions from the High Court.
This case will not be tried in Randfontein’s Magistrates’ Court, because of the nature and brutality of the murder. The suspect is yet to go for psychological assessment at Sterkfontein Hospital.
Rooskrans was brutally murdered at a house on Venus Street, in Toekomsrus on New Year’s Eve. She was the mother of one toddler and a baby.
Police confirmed that she was beaten with a garden tool, allegedly by her boyfriend. Rooskrans’ funeral was held in Toekomsrus on Saturday, 6 January.
