VIDEO: Mayor wishes R’tein a Merry Christmas

The Executive Mayor, Mzi Khumalo.

Randfontein CBD — It’s that time of the year again when the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) wants the community to be with their families and think back over the challenges of the year that affected them.

The Herald recently met with RWCLM Executive Mayor, Mzi Khumalo when he shared his Christmas wish for the community.

“This time of the year is a time where we should show some love and be with families,” said Khumalo.

He continued by saying that the municipality would like to encourage children to go to school and learn as the future is all about education. The municipality recently awarded its bursaries and the applicants will be informed by February 2018 if their application was successful. Khumalo feels that the bursaries are the gift for children.

“Unfortunate accidents happen more frequently at this time of the year. We want to ask drivers to drive carefully, care for other drivers and observe the rules of the road. May everyone arrive alive at their destination,” said Khumalo.

He added that the festive season is a time where children make use of alcohol and drugs. He pleaded with them, begging them to avoid this kind of behaviour. He also encouraged people to drink responsibly and wait for the right time to make use of alcohol.

“I want to thank the community for allowing me to lead. I can assure you the future is bright if we walk together,” said Khumalo.

Khumalo closed of his message with the following quote from Nelson Mandela:

“We must therefore act together as a united people, for national reconciliation, for nation building, for the birth of a new world. Let there be justice for all. Let there be peace for all.”
