Palm trees on Homestead Avenue a danger

William Brooks shows how difficult it is to cross the road between the islands.

A resident and employee of a business in Homestead Avenue has a huge issue with the palm trees in the middle of the road.

William Brooks, who travels that road daily, said that the palm trees have grown in such a way that they pose a danger to the visibility of the vehicles between the islands.

Brooks said, “There have been plenty of accidents because of these palm trees. I do not understand why they chose palm trees.”

The Herald asked the community for their opinion on the palm trees on social media, and they responded with the following:

• ” Terrible !!! Always a struggle…. Lazaar Avenue as well…. who decided on palm trees ???”

• “Jip, they can be taken out, don’t know why they planted it there.”

• “Yes I think it was a silly idea, and dangerous!”

• ” Waarom twee rye plant? Een ry in die middel van die middelmannetjie sou meer as voldoende gewees het.”

• “Wou dit self al gaan sny het. Veral by die oorgang naby [die] stadion.”

• “Yes it is horrible.”

• “Dit was ook maar net iemand wat gedink het sy maak ons dorp mooi”

• “Big, big problem. People must first be killed or get hurt before Randfontein Council will do something about it. We are complaining about this problem for about two years now, and it is still there.”

• ” It is dangerous.”

• “Always been a huge irritation.”

• “Gemors daardie, gaan nog baie lewens kos deur dit.”

• “From day one!”

The Herald contacted Ellik de Lange, DA Ward 6 councillor. He said he will contact the relevant party and have the trees trimmed.
