Two vehicle occupants arrested for possession of drugs

Two men aged between 25 and 30 are expected to appear before the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court within 48 hours after they were bust for possession of drugs in a vehicle on Tuesday, 11 July.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said, “Warrant Officer Michael Beukes, in partnership with the Community Patrol group, was conducting a stop-and-search operation at Bekkersdal when they spotted a vehicle with three occupants parked alongside the road.

“They approached the vehicle and requested permission to search the occupants. Two of the occupants were found to be in possession of powder suspected to be nyaope, and plastic bags containing loose tablets thought to be other drugs and dagga. The two were immediately placed under arrest. They will be charged for being in possession of substances suspected to be drugs as well as for being in possession of dagga.

Colonel Abraham Nkhwashu, the station commander was very pleased with the arrest and applauded the members for good work.

“We must keep conducting this kind of operation to discourage substance abuse amongst our youth,” he said.
