Ahmed Timol Secondary School as well as Westonaria High School are ecstatic to announce that two of their respective Grade 10 learners are packing their bags to leave for Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Every year for the past three years the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (Saica) has brought the Saica Sage One Junior Accounting Olympiad to schools across the country.

This Olympiad targets Grade 9 learners who are still deciding whether or not to continue with Accounting and entice them to take the subject in their final school years.

Six of the best performers are then chosen to represent the country in the USA. Gauteng West is home to two of the six learners, Mongezi Ndhlovu from Kagiso and Sbonelo Ntombela from Westonaria who will be going to Harvard.

This is an astonishing achievement for both schools, considering that approximately 800 entries were from Gauteng schools alone.

During their two-week visit they will cover various accounting-based modules in an Inspire Leadership programme hosted by this prestigious university.

“Mongezi is a very industrious little boy. He completes every task to the best of his ability and he really goes above and beyond. We are really proud of him and the fact that we are going to be living the dream through his eyes,” said Sagren Naidoo, principal of Ahmed Timol Secondary School.
